Why is it important to understand a culture when learning its language?
I believe it's important to understand a language's culture because it gives the student a better appreciation for the people, the current news and events, and the significance of their words in their language, the countries they live in, etc. Learning about other cultures is also very interesting and unique to any other culture. It's important to understand the significance of their beliefs and morals as well. Learning about this can inspire us and want us to learn more about the language and its significance. Both are very important and connected in similar ways. I hope that I can continue to learn more about the Spanish language and culture in my life.
How has the examination of the themes and lyrics in “Latinoamérica” helped you to develop a deeper understanding of your own culture?
The song Latinoamérica has many very powerful lyrics. There are many lines in the song that connect directly to the singer's culture and where he is from. He uses a lot of metaphors to show connections with his culture. This inspired me to make a powerful poem that most americans can resonate with. He inspired me to reflect deeply about my personal culture, what makes me happy, what has helped shape who I am today, etc. Calle 13 has helped me develop new thoughts on my what my life is and what things make who I am.
